La Fermette  La Fermette traditional stone cottage sleeps 6 plus baby 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms log-burning stove electric central heating UK satellite TV & DVD player wi-fi internet connection La Fermette is a comfortable holiday cottage in the grounds of Le Haut Fresnay. It accommodates up to six people plus a baby. Built from local stone with a terracotta tiled roof, the cottage is furnished and equipped to a high standard and has the added benefit of electric central heating for the cooler months of the year. When Le Haut Fresnay was a working farm in the 19th Century, La Fermette was the main farmhouse. It seems that the farmer built La Fermette first and then built a barn (our private house) which was much larger than the farmhouse. The date and his initials can be seen carved over one of the doors. The farmer planned to build a new, larger farmhouse but died before this happened, so La Fermette continued to be the Leroy family home until 1970. La Fermette has a fenced courtyard garden at the front of the house. Originally, this was the garden for the family - the rest of the grounds were used as the "basse-cour" (farmyard). Although small, this garden is a real sun-trap in the morning and a wonderful place to enjoy your coffee and croissants. Best of all, you can leave small children to play in this garden safely without constant supervision. There is also enough space for two cars to park by the cottage. In addition, La Fermette has a private patio at the back of the cottage which is surrounded by garden (and is not overlooked by the other houses). The back garden also has a small pond with a shingle "beach" which attracts interesting wildlife. The patio has garden furniture and a barbecue - the perfect place for an early-evening aperitif followed by an alfresco supper as the sun sets over the meadow. The Accommodation On the ground floor of the cottage is a spacious, open-plan living area with kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Warm lighting creates a relaxing atmosphere in the room. A log-burning stove is surrounded by lots of comfy seating. There is UK satellite TV, a DVD player, a radio/tape/CD player and a selection of card and board games to choose from. Oak-beamed ceilings add character and charm throughout the cottage, especially in the living room. In the cooler months, we provide a complimentary basket of logs - further supplies are available for an additional charge. Depending on the time of year, the stove will heat the room by itself, although central heating can provide extra heating for the living room and the bedrooms upstairs if needed. The well-equipped fitted kitchen includes a conventional electric oven, a ceramic hob, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a microwave oven, a large fridge, an electric kettle and a toaster. Maybe your idea of a holiday is to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible... but if you do like to cook, you'll find everything you need for preparing the smallest snack or a five-course gourmet supper. And if you need a piece of equipment that is not provided, you can always ask to borrow it from us! From the rear hallway, French windows open onto the rear patio. The hallway also leads to a downstairs bathroom which has a shower and hand basin; there is a separate WC. Stairs (with a safety gate at the top) then lead up to a large landing, the house bathroom and three well-furnished bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and the third has twin beds. The bedrooms also have fitted carpets, dressing tables with mirrors, bedside tables with reading lamps, and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. All bed linen (except cot linen) and towels are provided and included in our prices. The three bedrooms have large, wide Velux windows (at the rear of the house) with delightful views of the surrounding garden, the pond and meadowland beyond, where pretty Normandy cows can normally be seen grazing. If there is a baby in your party, we can put a cot in the twin bedroom. (We do not leave the cot in the house when it is not needed.) We can also provide a high chair and a detachable bed-rail for one of the single beds. The house bathroom is adjacent to one of the bedrooms (but not en suite, so the bathroom can be used by the occupants of all three bedrooms). It has a shower, a hand basin and a WC. There is an electric shaver socket next to the mirror which is over the hand basin.
